Beyond Date Night: Oktoberfest

In the continued effort to hang on to summer and to have cheap dates outside, Ash and I headed to Oktoberfest this weekend for some good German themed fun (and beer). If you live in NY or close by, the festival is going on every weekend through October 28th at Bear Mountain Park from noon-6. Parking is $8. You can sample some of the German (bratwurst, knockwurst, pierogies, potato pancakes, and German potato salad) or American fare (cheeseburgers, chicken fingers, french fries) or just grab a beer and take in the scenery. There are also tons of vendors selling crafts, beauty products and jewelry. Outside of the Oktoberfest festivities, you can rent canoes or pedal boats, go hiking, barbeque, visit the petting zoo, or just plant yourself on the main park meadow and relax. We’re already planning to go at least twice—once with the pup and some friends to barbeque and play around and once to rent boats and chill out. I highly recommend it on a nice sunny day. Total cost: $53.00 (Ash wanted a huge glass souvenir beer stein—otherwise, we’d have spent about $34 on food and beer. I will note that the beer stein—though pricey ($25) is kinda fun and refills are only $9. You can take it with you on subsequent weekends if you go back and get a boatload of beer for $9.)

Souvenir beer stein filled to the brim

Sun reflecting off of the lake at Bear Mountain

Ducks passing through on the hunt for people who'll feed them bread and pretzels

Beer in the sun. I couldn't handle the stein after an indulgent date night.

Nothing but beautiful, blue skies
