It's Been a Long Time...

It has been a long time since I posted here. To be honest, I've been trying to evaluate my relationship to this space and whether it still fits in my life in its current form. I have ideas about where I want to take it but am not sure its feasible while holding down a demanding day job. I'm also struggling with what matters in this changing world. Can I really limit my blog to food, fashion and inspirational quotes when the world around me is on fire? On the other hand, is it best to "keep it light" in a world where so much is about the cracks in the global foundation? I think the balance is somewhere in the middle--a view on what "life well lived" in an ever-changing world from one woman's perspective.

I'm not exactly sure what that will look like going forward but I do know I'm not ready to totally give up the blog. There are a lot of things happening in my life that I want to share with the people who've been keeping up with the blog since the early days. I promise I'll be back in some form one day soon. Until then, be blessed and enjoy today's post about Dr. Seuss.

Today is Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss)’s birthday. As a child, I read his books over and over. At the time, his words were just cute rhymes sprinkled among colorful, whimsical illustrations--all the little me needed at bedtime or on a rainy afternoon. I grew up and read them to my little sister when she was a child.

Then I read them to the children I babysat for as a teen. Then Dr. Seuss faded out of my life until I received Oh, The Places You’ll Go! after graduating college. I started to realize the appeal of his words in adulthood. Since then, I’ve drawn on his quotes many times for inspiration or perspective.

In today’s frustrating, uncertain and often scary times, these Dr. Seuss quotes are among my favorites. They remind me to stay present and “woke.” They remind me that we’re all needed for significant change and that my voice counts--both on its own and as part of the collective.
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
